1         TAPI Use Cases Physical Equipment (titles and sketch)

1.1       In an inventory role I want to determine the actual equipment present in the device along with its properties and states

To know what is actually installed in the network and potentially operating so as to be able to locate specific units and batches for repair etc. For example, to determine what Actual SFPs there are in an actual circuit pack in an actual sub-rack regardless of whether any of these are expected.

Understand (when present):

  1. Type
  2. Version
  3. Spec reference (to manufacturer and capability, connectors etc.)
  4. Serial number

 

And

  1. Operational state
  2. Admin state
  3. Operation of non-transport functions related to the device
  4. Equipment protection

 

And software model… No??

1.2       In a provisioning role I want to determine the devices view of what is expected in the device

To know what the device is expecting to be installed and to allow pre-configuration of physical parameters prior to the installation of the part of the physical device to which they apply. For example, to determine what SFPs are expected in an expected circuit pack in an expected sub-rack regardless of whether any of these are actually present.

Understand (when configured):

  1. Type
  2. Version
  3. Spec reference (to manufacturer and capability, connectors etc.)
  4. Configured parameters and measurement thresholds etc.

And

  1. Whether the actual equipment (when present) matches this

1.3       In a diagnostic role I want to determine the physical connectors/pins that a signal passes through at the boundary of a device

To enable the determining of which physical connectors a particular signal is dependent upon.

Understand connector names etc.

1.4       In a planning role I want to determine the capabilities of specific types of equipment and equipment assemblies so that I can plan to support particular types of services

Understand for an equipment type/version assembly

  1. Functions supported
  2. LTPs supported
  3. Connections supported
  4. Etc.
  5.
